Help for Hero Success

Wednesday 10th March 2010 17:03

Thursday 4th March was a huge success with a full house at the Oakley House. The evening went off better than expected with everybody seated by 7pm we were off to a great start. We do owe a big thank you to the venue whose staff made the evening go as smooth as silk and compliments to the chef with both the soup and the chicken better than I get at home!!! After an initial intro from the host, a regular we use by the name of Russell the night got off to a bang with a quick game of Kings and Queens to get everyone in high spirits.

With a standing ovation to welcome in some of the soldiers that came to represent the Help for Heroes Charity we then listened to what only can be described as a brutal reality check as to why we all should be so grateful for what we have. Lance Corporal Chris Hill spoke about life in Afghanistan, Iraq, what gets them through it and how the charity benefits the soldiers that need rehabilitating on numerous levels to achieve the best quality of life available to them.

After that we sat down to the main course while the first round of the auction took place, with signed Muhammad Ali shorts and Centre court opening day tickets at Wimbledon among the lots offered. With dessert on its way to my table a question and answer session with the lads, being Tony Gale, Julian Dicks, Neil Ruddock, Kenny Samson and Neil Harris took place and they announced the results of the silent auction.

All in all the night played host to over 200 people which is a massive support for the worthwhile cause and with us handing over a cheque for £3,750 a great night for everyone involved. We all at the Autographs Store had a great night and can`t wait to organise the next one. The video for this event will be available in the next couple of days, so have a look and keep your eye out for our next big charity night!!!

Speak to you all soon

David Gower Dinner With Naomi House Charity

Tuesday 02nd March 2010 16:03

The Autographs Store has attended many Sportsmans Dinner events and has helped raise significant amounts of money for the chosen charities by auctioning off signed sports memorabilia pieces in their silent and mainline auctions.

Event

The David Gower Dinner was held at the Rose Bowl Resort in Southampton on the 25th February. There were over 150 people that attended this event all to help raise money for the Naomi House Charity. The Naomi House charity is a registered charity that provides support to children and young people with conditions that mean they are unlikely to live to become adults.

This sportsmans dinner event was held at the Rose Bowl Resort in Southhampton. The Rose Bowl is a state of the art cricket ground. Home to Hampshire cricket club the ground has become increasingly popular and developed itself into one of the leading venues in the country. There are around 10,000 seats all in great view of the cricket ground and this is the only ground with permanent floodlights so entertainment can continue after dark. The Rose Bowl has staged a number of high profile cricket matches and the flexible of the ground means that the capacity for these games can expand to 20,000.

Charity

The charity associated with this event is the Naomi House Charity. which is a charity that provides support to children and young people with conditions that mean they are unlikely to live to become adults. The charity provides care to families living in communities across the seven counties of Berkshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire.

The children`s charity has two specialist units being the Naomi House. for children, and jacksplace for young people. Each unit provides an appropriate environment for each age group. It costs around £4.5million a year to run the two units.

Silent Auction

At the event the Autographs Store provided a silent auction for guests to bid on signed sports memorabilia pieces of their choice to help raise money for the Naomi House Charity. The silent auction was a great success as the Autographs Store managed to raise £685.00 for the charity.

Mainline Auction

Along with the successful silent auction the Autographs Store also provided a mainline auction to help raise money for the Naomi House Charity. Items that were provided for the mainline auction were a signed David Beckham framed shirt with an Andrew Strauss signed 2009 Ashes mini bat along with many other items. The total amount raised through the mainline auction was £450.00.

This charity event turned out to be a great success for all presence and helped raise a considerable amount of money for the Naomi House Charity.

Autographs Store Support Army Dog Unit

Tuesday 16th February 2010 16:02

The Autographs Store has recently supported the Army Dog Unit by donating authentic signed sports memorabilia items such as framed David Beckham photo and framed Joe Calzaghe photo that can be won in the reunion raffle which is to be held on the 1st May 2010.

All proceeds made by the raffle will be donated to the Combat Stress Organisation who will wisely use the funds to help serving and ex servicemen and women deal with the problems of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which is more common than most people can imagine.

The Autographs Store contribution can help someone rebuild their life after the traumas of military service.

Army Dog Unit

The Army Dog Unit located in Northern Ireland was formed on 1st May 1973 to provide dogs and handlers to enhance the security forces. It is an association all about the memories of the dog handlers who were searching for explosives, tracking or guarding.

The Red Paw badge was given to all dog handlers to set them apart from other dog handlers in the Army Dog Unit and also represents the paws of the dogs that were required to carry out duties. The badge was in existence for over 20 years before an official shoulder flash was introduced.

The Army Dog Unit proudly holds the record as the longest serving mainland unit during the troubles in Northern Ireland. All Dog Handlers were volunteers and were recruited from all regiments of the army.

Combat Stress Organisation

The Combat Stress Organisation is the leading service provider in the care of serving and ex servicemen and women of mental health. They are able to deliver specialist treatment to those whose problems are constant, complex and long term.

Many ex service men and women leave the forces with a severe psychological wound such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). One of the symptoms of PTSD is the common tendency to remember life threatening incidents which can lead to day and night shocks, mood swings, panic attacks and phobias.

The Combat Stress Organisation offers specialist clinical treatment to help people with this problem and help them overcome it with a range of techniques.

Help the Autographs Store support these charities by attending the reunion raffle on the 1st May 2010 to improve the lives of servicemen and women from the armed forces.

Autographs Store Recommend Untold Arsenal

Friday 12th February 2010 13:02

All the Arsenal news that no one else would ever dream of publishing.

There are probably 1000 blogs written each day in English on the topic of Arsenal FC. Quite a lot really.

And then there is Untold Arsenal.

Untold Arsenal is read by about 200,000 a month, and they do this because the site lives up to its name it covers the aspects of Arsenal that no other site looks at.

Because our brief is to be different, we are also varied. For example this morning, as I write this, we have posted a piece about relationships in football. The relationship between owners and fans, between the FA and FIFA, between clubs and their football association.

The piece draws on examples from Argentina, where the watching of football on TV free of charge has just been made a human right, to Manchester United where fans are being told not to bring in any flags or banners protesting about the owners. We also take in Chester City, when the fans have boycotted the club, and Mansfield Town, where they got 7,000 to a recent Conference game.

And all the time there is Arsenal. We support Wenger, and his vision of the link between economics and football survival. We celebrate being the only totally sustainable club in the EPL.

But it`s not all heavy-handed intellectual what-not. Today we ran the rumour that Ashley Cole had fallen in love with a shoe box. And there are previews of matches written by our special correspondent Billy the Dog, unlike anything else in print anywhere. (Billy predicted we would win the opening game of this season 7-1 and if Ramsey had passed instead of shooting in the final minute, he would have been right).

Our regular writing team include a referee, an academic, a student and the author of the book "Making the Arsenal" (that`s me since you ask). Other guest writers join us regularly. The result is a varied feast.

Untold Arsenal - Arsenal news absolutely unlike anything else you can read anywhere else. Untold Arsenal Blog
